Dental crowns are a versatile, reliable solution for numerous oral health problems. One of the most commonly used dental treatments today, a dental crown can have both restorative and cosmetic purposes. Dr. Mojgan Mazhari places same-day dental crowns in our Alexandria office using advanced technology and high-quality materials for lasting results that can enhance both the integrity and aesthetics of your natural tooth.
What is a Dental Crown?
This application is often referred to as a “tooth cap” because it covers the entire tooth surface. When placed effectively, a dental crown provides additional strength and improved aesthetics.
A same-day dental crown may be recommended to address a range of concerns, including:
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Decayed teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Metal fillings in need of replacement
- Strengthening a tooth after a root canal
Dental crowns can play an important role in the maintenance of your natural teeth, helping to keep them healthy and functional for as long as possible.
What Can I Expect From the Same-Day Dental Crown Treatment Process?
For a ceramic crown, Dr. Mazhari uses high-resolution digital images to design and fabricate your dental crown with a CEREC milling machine while you wait. Once complete, she’ll permanently secure the crown and make final adjustments for a comfortable fit. You can leave the same day with your final dental crown—and your new smile.
If necessary, a local anesthetic is used for comfort but otherwise, the entire procedure is relatively painless, and there’s no return trip to the dentist required in most cases.
If your condition requires a dental crown made of a material other than ceramic, it won’t be ready the same day. However, the procedure is much the same.
What is CEREC Technology?
CEREC is a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology that allows us to design, fabricate, and place a high-quality ceramic crown during a single visit. For today’s busy patients, this makes receiving the dental care you need more convenient and comfortable.
When a Same-Day Dental Crown Isn't an Option
Same-day crowns might not be the best solution for certain dental health circumstances such as:
- A fracture below the gumline
- Your condition requires the application of multiple crowns
- Crown placement is in the front of the mouth, where it’s hard to match the color
If you’re in need of restorative dental care, make sure to choose a skilled dentist with CEREC experience, so you receive a same-day crown built to last.
