What Is a Cosmetic Dentist?
A cosmetic dentist is typically one who places a strong focus on providing both functional and cosmetic treatments at their practice. While cosmetic dentists usually offer a full selection of general/preventive dentistry options and restorative dental care, they have often pursued extensive additional education and training in aesthetic dentistry, as well. This allows them to provide advanced treatments geared toward the enhancement of smile aesthetics in addition to improvement of dental health and function. Treatments such as porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, dental bonding, and other cosmetic dentistry options are often available from a cosmetic dentist. These services include treatments that can address concerns such as cracked or chipped teeth, gaps and spaces, crowding and misalignment, or stained/discolored teeth while producing comprehensive aesthetic smile renewal. Some of the indicators of a highly-qualified cosmetic dentist can also be determined by their professional memberships and educational history. For instance, Dr. Mazhari is affiliated with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has been trained at LVI, two of the most prestigious and respected cosmetic dentistry institutions in the nation.
How to Choose a Cosmetic Dentist
An important aspect of your dental treatment experience involves selecting the right cosmetic dentist to meet your needs. Ensuring the dentist you choose makes cosmetic dentistry a focus of their practice is definitely a top priority. As mentioned above, most cosmetic dentists are specifically trained and equipped to treat cosmetic, restorative, and preventive dental care needs. In addition, you should conduct a precise vetting assessment of your potential cosmetic dentist by ensuring they have extensive training, education, and experience. This information is often available on the practice’s website, along with the dentist’s credentials. Viewing before-and-after photos of the dentist’s results and reading patient reviews can also provide a general overview of the treatment outcomes for which the doctor is capable. Lastly, meeting with the prospective dentist in person and determining whether you are comfortable and confident in their abilities is very important. Developing a positive relationship from the outset is crucial. Ultimately, you should be a true collaborator in your care and have full trust in the person who will be transforming your smile!
