Dental Crowns

Our dental crown treatment plans can deliver the right results for your smile. Crowns are ideal for teeth that have been severely compromised by large fillings and/or wear and tear. One of the most commonly used dental treatments today, a dental crown can have both restorative and cosmetic purposes when addressing a range of dental concerns. Dr. Mojgan Mazhari places dental crowns in our Alexandria office using advanced technology and high-quality materials for lasting results that can enhance both the integrity and aesthetics of your natural tooth.

Dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials, depending on the location of the affected tooth and your specific cosmetic desires. In most cases, Dr. Mazhari recommends using a ceramic or composite resin for the most natural-looking result and a secure fit. We offer the convenience of same-day dental crowns and the benefit of accurate results using advanced CEREC® CAD/CAM technology.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is often referred to as a “tooth cap” because it covers the entire tooth surface. When placed effectively, a dental crown will provide additional strength and improved aesthetics.

A dental crown may be recommended to address a range of concerns, including:

Dental crowns can play an important role in the maintenance of your natural teeth, helping to keep them healthy and functional for as long as possible.

Single Crown

You no longer need to schedule multiple visits to the dentist to restore a tooth to its full function and esthetics, but you can have the full crown or partial crown fabricated in less than 90 minutes. While the fabrication time for multiple crowns can take a bit longer, it’s still possible to do those in one visit as well.

What is CEREC® Technology?

CEREC is a computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology that allows us to design, fabricate, and place a high-quality ceramic crown during a single visit. For today’s busy patients, this makes receiving the dental care you need more convenient and comfortable.

Dr. Mazhari is committed to providing patients with optimal care, and she believes that investing in the latest technologies helps streamline both the patient experience and the treatment process. Alexandria Dental Health & Smile Studio is proud to offer the latest in CEREC technology: the Primescan Intraoral Scanner. This state-of-the-art digital imaging technology is faster and more accurate than ever before. Combined with our in-house 3D printing technology, the Primescan enables us to produce sturdy, high-quality, and fully-customized crown restorations that maximize function and aesthetics.

What Can I Expect From the Dental Crowns Treatment Process?

If you are receiving a ceramic crown, your procedure will begin with easy and convenient digital impressions using our CEREC technology—no messy impression trays and gooey putties necessary! Dr. Mazhari will use the high-resolution digital images to design and fabricate your dental crown with the CEREC milling machine while you wait. Once complete, she will permanently secure the crown and make final adjustments for a comfortable fit. You can leave the same day with your final dental crown—and your new smile. If necessary, a local anesthetic is used for comfort, but otherwise the entire procedure is relatively painless, and there is no return trip to the dentist required in most cases.

If you are receiving a dental crown made of a material other than ceramic, your dental crown process will begin with dental impressions to be used in the fabrication of a custom fit and, if necessary, a color-matched restoration. First, Dr. Mazhari will prepare the affected tooth by removing a minimal amount of structure to allow the crown to be securely attached and to fit comfortably. A temporary crown may be placed to allow normal function until your final restoration is ready. Once complete, your new dental crown will be permanently secured to your tooth, adjusted for fit, and then polished to blend with your natural teeth. The final result will support your overall dental health and last for many years with proper dental care and hygiene.
